5 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Blogging

Posted on 3 min read

When I first started blogging last year I wish I had spoken to a more experienced blogger so I could find out a little bit more about what I was getting myself in for! I have compiled a list of 5 things that I have found out were completely different to my expectations!
You may have noticed my posts can become extremely sporadic (although I did aim to post 3 times a week!), the reason for this is just not having enough time and sometimes energy.
A single blog post takes a lot longer than I though it would.
I thought I would be able to take a few pictures and then post about them, I was really wrong! It seems to take me and my poor boyfriend/photographer forever to take some half decent pictures, then you have to edit them and write about them so for me a lot of posts do take me well over a couple of hours.
As I do work for a web development company sometimes I get home and don’t want to open the laptop, but I do! I am now getting a bit of a handle on posts so I am hoping to go back to my 3 posts a week.
Blogging costs a lot of money, you see all of the established bloggers wearing different outfits every single day and what I did not realise was how much they get sent to review.
Unfortunately unless you are one of the more established sought after bloggers you will not get sent items of clothing/shoes/make up, etc.
We all know how much just the one outfit costs so I have limited the amount of fashion posts lately but they will be returning very soon!
Lighting is everything
When I first started blogging I thought I need the top of the range camera, (which I still haven’t got!), but by learning to work with what I have I have found out lighting is everything!
You could have the best camera but if you do not have the right lighting or poses your photos are still not going to be amazing.
This is one of the main reasons I haven’t posted many outfit posts lately, by the time I get home from work it is dark out and the lights at home always make the photos look too warm. I am on the look out for some white lights (and maybe a nice camera) so I can post more outfits.
Be Social
I never used to go on social media that much but I now have all the relevant social media profiles, (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, lookbook, Pinterest, Bloglovin).
I am still a little sporadic with when and what I post as I am still getting used to posting to various different sites.
Some of the more established bloggers post multiple times a day because it is their jobs, gleam girls I’m looking at you! I would post a lot more if I could but unless you want to see a picture from inside my office every day I will stick to posting when I have something awesome!
Have a life and have fun!
On a happier note, blogging is about having fun and letting your creativity shine through. If you are not happy blogging take a break and come back to it, you may find you enjoy it more and have a lot more to post about.
Lastly, have a life! Remember you are your blog and if you are holed up in a room all the time your blog is going to reflect that!
Go out there have fun and maybe on the way you’ll find some amazing things to post about.

Great thoughts! Blogging definitely takes time to get into your stride, but I love posting and seeing my pictures and words actually published online and out there for the world to see!
